Leicester Space Centre

At the beginning of September Rode Heath Primary School was lucky enough to go to the National Space Centre in Leicester.

Y5 class arrived at the Space Centre and looked around the exciting exhibits. In some parts of the exhibits you could try things out that were very interesting. In one exhibit there was a big computer screen that showed you videos about space. Next we went for lunch.

After lunch we went into a room and we met Chris who told us about space and comets. Then we met Rob and both of them gave us our jobs. My job was to communicate with Taylor because I was the navigator of the space ship. I had to direct Taylor to certain stars. After he had found the stars I had to write all the information about it down and then Taylor had to find all the stars in its constellation. Suddenly, an alarm went off and we all rushed into the meeting room and we swapped over jobs with our partners. Chris took us into a pretend space ship and then there was a countdown from ten and when we got to zero we had to stamp our feet and scream. Then he took us into an airlock and then he spun us round and then we were in the office. I went to my computer and got to work. Me and Taylor figured out I had to try and estimate the right angle so I would be able to hit the comet. Next I had to try and get the point bang on 400 (which I managed) on part of the comet. After that I was told to go and help out in the probe lab, and then we were ready to launch the probe. It was time to launch the probe. Luckily, it hit the comet so we got to name the comet RHPS5. I was so relieved when I knew I’d done my job properly! But guess what we got a really special certificate!

Finally, it was time to leave. But it was the BEST school trip ever.
